A progestin (synthetic progesterone) used in MHT to protect the uterine lining when combined with estrogen therapy.
Treats: Combined with estrogen to protect the endometrium in women with a uterus, endometriosis, abnormal uterine bleeding.
How to take it: One tablet by mouth daily, at the same time each day. Can be taken with or without food.
Important:
- Not approved as a contraceptive at this dose. If you're perimenopausal and still need contraception, discuss this with your clinician — a different formulation may be appropriate.
- Not for use during pregnancy.
Watch for (rare but serious — seek emergency care): Sudden chest pain, severe headache, vision changes, leg swelling.
Common side effects: Irregular spotting, breast tenderness, bloating, mood changes — often improve within a few months.
