Why is an in‑person visit required?
The state of Alabama requires all patients receiving Medication for Opioid Use Disorder (MOUD) treatment specifically buprenorphine-naloxone (Suboxone)—via telemedicine to complete one in-person visit per year. This visit is a general inspection and includes a mandatory drug screen to ensure compliance with state regulations. This requirement cannot be fulfilled via video or phone.
Requirement Details for New and Existing Patients
| Patient Type | Requirement Timeline |
|---|---|
| New Patients | Must schedule an in-person visit during the initial induction period. |
| Existing Patients | Must complete one visit every 12 months to maintain access to treatment. |
Completion of the initial induction visit fulfills the requirement for the following 11 months, allowing you to continue treatment via telemedicine during that period.
