Hormone therapy is not appropriate for everyone. Your clinician will review your health history carefully before prescribing.
Generally not recommended if you have:
- A personal history of breast, ovarian, or endometrial cancer (especially hormone-sensitive types)
- A history of blood clots (DVT or pulmonary embolism)
- A history of stroke or heart attack
- Active liver disease
- Unexplained vaginal bleeding
- A known allergy to any component of the therapy
Special consideration cases:
- BRCA1/BRCA2 mutation carriers: May still be appropriate in some situations — requires detailed discussion with your clinician and potentially a breast oncologist.
- Strong family history of breast cancer: Not an automatic contraindication — requires individual risk assessment.
- Cardiovascular disease: Transdermal forms (patch/gel) may be safer than oral tablets — discuss with your clinician.
If you're unsure, a consultation with a QuickMD clinician is the best place for a personalized assessment.
