A strong family history is important to discuss with your clinician, but it is not an automatic contraindication to hormone therapy.
Many women with a family history can safely use hormone therapy, particularly estrogen-only therapy, short-term use for severe symptoms, or use before age 60 or within 10 years of menopause.
What guides the decision:
- Whether you've had genetic testing (BRCA1/2)
- Your overall cardiovascular, bone, and quality-of-life risk picture
- The type and duration of hormone therapy being considered
Your QuickMD clinician will review your personal and family history and help you make an informed, individualized decision.
