When should I go to the emergency room?

Most cases of precipitated withdrawal can be managed at home with additional buprenorphine and supportive medications. However, you should seek emergency care if:

  • Your symptoms are severe and not improving after several hours of additional buprenorphine dosing
  • You are unable to take medication by mouth due to severe vomiting
  • You are experiencing chest pain, difficulty breathing, or other serious symptoms
  • You are in significant distress and feel unsafe managing at home

If you are ever in a medical emergency, call 911 or go to your nearest emergency room. You can also contact Patient Support at any time for guidance
