The most widely prescribed form of medication for opioid use disorder — a thin, dissolvable strip placed under the tongue.
How to take it:
- Place one or more strips under your tongue as prescribed
- Let them dissolve completely (usually 5–10 minutes)
- Do not eat, drink, or swallow saliva until strips are fully dissolved
- Do not crush, chew, or split strips unless your clinician advises otherwise
Starting treatment: Take your first dose only when in mild-to-moderate withdrawal (typically 12–24 hours after last opioid use). Starting too soon causes precipitated withdrawal — sudden, intense discomfort. Follow your clinician's instructions carefully.
Safety tips:
- Do not drink alcohol while taking Suboxone
- Avoid driving until you know how the medication affects you
- Check with your clinician before starting any new medications
- Store in a secure, cool, dry place away from children
