MAT programs have strict rules that patients have to abide by and that are enforced by the DEA, which include no early refills.
While we encourage making an appointment several days before running out of the medication to avoid last-minute pharmacy issues, we cannot authorize refills earlier than the grace period of your individual pharmacy (which is generally between 1-3 days).
We will not be able to authorize an early refill unless your care team has specifically authorized an increase in your dose prior to your refill date.
In summary, we cannot authorize early refills for the following:
- In cases of lost or stolen medications (note that you have agreed to our treatment agreement to keep your medication in a safe place)
- You took more than the prescribed and authorized amount
- Travel-related early refills
To mitigate any travel related issues we recommend the following:
If you know your travel plans in advance, please instruct your doctor to send you less than a month's supply so that your refill date does not fall into your travel dates. This will ensure that you will be able to get a refill shortly before your trip.
