MOUD programs have strict rules that both patients and providers must abide by. These rules are enforced by the DEA, which include no early refills. We encourage you to book an appointment several days before running out of the medication to avoid last-minute pharmacy issues, but we do not authorize refills earlier than the grace period of your individual pharmacy (which is generally between 1-3 days).
In summary, we cannot authorize early refills for the following:
- In cases of lost or stolen medication.
- Taking more than the prescribed amount.
- Travel-related early refills.
We recommend informing your doctor of your travel plans in advance. Request a prescription for less than a month’s supply so that your refill date doesn’t coincide with your travel dates. This will allow you to refill your medication shortly before your trip. If you have additional questions please contact us directly.
