At QuickMD, we are able to treat Kratom and Tianeptine dependence and addiction in the same manner that we treat more traditional opioid use disorder (OUD).
Although tianeptine is not an opioid itself, tianeptine binds to and acts as an agonist at the mu opioid receptor, the same type of activity caused by opioid drugs. An article in the Journal of Addiction Medicine reports “Chronic daily use of tianeptine may represent tianeptine use disorder, which can have a clinical course consistent with opioid use disorder, including the development of impaired control, functional impairment, tolerance, and withdrawal. It is appropriate to consider medications (like buprenorphine) for opioid use disorder for the management of tianeptine use disorder.”
Kratom contains mitragynine, which breaks down and activates mu-opioid receptors. Kratom dependence, withdrawal, and addiction can be treated with OUD.
